'Hold Her' combines synth-heavy textures, captivating vocal layering and a shuffling groove together with a third-person narrative commenting on a romance between friends. Overcome by experiences in her past relationships, she tries to warn the male character that if he doesn’t give her what she deserves, then he’ll lose her, ‘Darling, her love is your saviour’.
"Hold Her is another way of saying ‘give her your love’; that if he doesn't give her what she deserves then he’ll lose her. It came together at a time when I was really discovering the music of artists Salami Rose Joe Louis and Soccer 96. I was obsessed with Salami’s use of vocal layering as a texture. I think that definitely influenced the chorus."
lyrics
She tried to warn you
Why you gotta be like that?
Her loves it saves you
Why you gotta be like that?
Little did you know she’s the
Reason for your existence
She floods in her own tears
His ignorance
Why can’t you love her? (x3)
When all you do is hold her
Hold Her
Give her your love like she deserves
Honour her soul and make her move
Didn’t realise you hurt her still?
Then you know why you lost her
Darling, her love is your saviour (saviour, saviour)
Hold Her

Great album! A crossover jazz-r'nb-african trip from continent to continent. London does it again. Nyubian Twist with more jazz overtones. John Woodward
